Follow the steps below to set up private name servers for your domain.
Register your name servers at the domain registrar control panel
For private name servers, it is vital to have both the name servers and their corresponding IP addresses. The welcome email that you received after purchasing server from us will contain the IP address. Private name servers would be ns1.yourdomain.com and ns2.yourdomain.com.
If you purchased your domain from one of the registrars, Look for options along the lines of register DNS, create DNS or add DNS from within your account with your registrar. The only way to create name servers is by using the IP addresses we assigned to your ns1 and ns2.yourdomain.com If there isn't a field asking for the IP, you are not at the right place.
Changing DNS of all your other domains (if you have more than 1) after registering your first domain name server.
Point all your domains to the new nameserver at your registrar by adding ns1.yoursite.com and ns2.yoursite.com. Changing your domain's DNS is not the same thing as registering name servers. You will not be able to change your site's DNS to private name servers until your private name servers are registered with your domain registrar
Make sure your SOA and NS Records are Correct
DNS Glue or fixing your glue, by which we mean checking the SOA and NS records in your domain's DNS zone, and making sure they match the nameservers being used at your registrar exactly.
The SOA (Start of Authority) and NS (Nameserver) records tell the internet that your private nameservers are authoritative and contain the most up-to-date information about your DNS settings. If these are not set correctly, some DNS servers will not trust your private nameservers. Other DNS servers may get confused because there is a mismatch between what the registrar says and what your nameservers say. This typically results in some people being able to reach your domain, while others cannot. So it is always a good idea to double-check these settings.
Setting A Records for Private Nameservers
After your nameservers have been created and the glue is set, if you are using private nameservers, then you must add the necessary A records to your domain. Once the A record has been updated, you will be able to use your private name servers for all the domains to be hosted on your account.
Propagation
Since creating private name servers requires a change to your DNS, please allow 24 to 48 hours for the name servers to become fully functional as they require this time to propagate.
